Feeling like you are stuck in a rut or always nagged by aches and pains? This book is for you!
Nature is Your Ally, a guide to anti-inflammatory eating customized for you, is not another diet
book, it is about adopting a different view on the impact of our choices - beginning with the
foods we eat. Written by a pharmacist turned functional medicine clinical wellness coach,
Nature is Your Ally is designed to be a reference rather than a one-time read.
The book is a guide to motivate you to change your outlook on food. It includes a guide to
learning what foods have a negative impact on your body and meal or food substitution
suggestions. The concept behind this type of eating is that chronic inflammation is sometimes triggered by small reactions each individual has to foods we eat. The cells of the GI tract become inflamed and the presence of inflammatory cells cascade throughout our bodies triggering systemic and chronic inflammation. By giving our bodies a chance to let the inflammation settle down we can calm the inflammatory response and among other benefits, decrease pain.
The author, Bianca Bradshaw, has experienced firsthand the positive changes that selective,
anti-inflammatory, eating can have on your health and wellbeing. For years she went up and
down in weight but beyond the dissatisfaction with how she looked, she knew she wasn’t
healthy. Even in her 30s she was plagued by sleepless nights of pain in the knee aggravated by
a job that required her to be on her feet all day. The doctors were monitoring for lupus
because of several symptoms, including unexplained and excruciating pain in every joint on the
left side of her body.
After months of study she finally decided to commit to a food elimination diet where she ate
foods that most people do not react to. Her goal was to try to decrease some of her
discomfort, she didn’t expect the benefit of sustainable weight loss. It took about 6 weeks to
dial in the objectives and not accidentally eat something that was to be avoided. After 6 weeks
she was noticing a difference in how she felt. Slowly she started adding foods she had been
avoiding back into her diet. Some days she felt great, other days she had reactions. Reactions
ranged from bloating and gastrointestinal discomfort to the return of the nagging joint pains.
Over time, Bianca has learned to listen to her body. She now eats certain foods in moderation
or avoids them completely. She wants to help you determine which foods are affecting you. At
first you might think it’s worth the pain for the taste of a favorite food, but over time you
realize how nice it is to feel good most of the time.
Sometimes there are reasonable substitutes for your favorites. Instead of pasta with heavy
cream, spinach and chicken maybe you eat cassava or chickpea pasta with coconut cream,
spinach and chicken. This book has ideas and suggestions to not only find the foods that work
for you but also to improve your gut health and help you meet your goals. Pick up a copy today
